How hard is it to get your song played on a local radio station?

im in this band thats about 3 months old (dead serious band not one of those saturday mess around bands), within those 3 months we wrote 8 songs, wer a post grunge alt band i guess (its hard to peg the sound) and played 3 shows and people really loved us and we get really good reception everywhere we go. well i remember a couple weeks ago our bassists cousin personaly walked into a popular local radio station and showed them the website and our 2 recordings and he said they really liked us too and if we brought in a actual disk with the songs on it that they would help us out and play us but my question is....is it really that easy? can they really just take our cd demo (its not bad quality we multi track recorded it in our old practice space basement and came out with a pretty tight sound) and play it over the radio even if it is just like an after 10 o clock thing?
