Jazz artists I should know about?

I've been wanting to expand my palette of music and have decided to focus primarily on jazz. I actually already have a wide taste in music, ranging from shoegaze to trip-hop, but I've always loved the sound of the sax and trombone. Only jazz artist I listen to often is Miles Davis, any suggestions similar to him?
