Youtube extremely slow?

About a week ago my youtube switched for some reason, and is using a different video format. The red bar thing doesn't have a light red showing how much of the video has loaded it is just full dark red. When I try to go fullscreen it doesnt expand beyond the browser and only stays within my taskbar and navigation toolbar.
